Water Temp: 72-78°F
Conditions: Sunny and calm generally with monsoons threatening in the PM. Occasional rain and clouds.
Species caught: Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Pike, Largemouth Bass, Catfish, Crappie
Water levels continue to fall and displace crayfish and bedding brim. Most smallmounth have remained feeding shallow, gorging on crawdads and fry.
Largemouth bass have been showing up with good size. I caught a 7-pound lunker with the anchor down and my family swimming around the boat. Another 3 pounder, obviously feeding on small fry, fell victim to the bluegill jig.
Bluegill are everywhere. Crappie can be found mixed with them in certain areas. If weather is calm, and especially in low light conditions, the panfish are on the surface. As the sun gets up or wind starts blowing, they will retreat to 20 feet or deeper. Some crappie are showing up in 40 feet, but the ones that are feeding are 5 to 10 feet deep over deep water.
Pike have been random. Some days yield 5 or more. Some days none. The larger pike are hiding in deep trees.
